Artist Profile

  • Origin: Born in Odessa, Ukraine.
  • Base: Alicante, Spain (since 2022).
  • Mediums: Watercolor and graphite pencils.
  • Themes: Vegetation, ancient architecture, and misty landscapes adapted into a fragile, transparent style.

Artistic Vision & Style

In her works, Irina explores the fragile nature of materiality, attempting to show the delicate balance between entropy and order. Her creations often resemble transparent organisms—phenomena with weightless structures and flowers that imitate the clarity of X-rays.

"To avoid the pain of injustice and cruelty of our world — I look for new invisible facets in each petal and in each part of a transparent organism. There is a clear pattern and geometry, laws and relationships work there."

An Interview with Irina Kirpisheva

Q: When Did You Start Working with Watercolors, and What Captivates You Most About Them?

"My attempts at watercolor painting began back in 2020, when I was sketching with pencils. I finally chose watercolor in 2021."

"What attracts me most about watercolor painting is the ability to create transparent layers, as well as its ability to live and create on its own. Watercolor is perhaps the only medium that can move freely with water, creating unimaginable effects. And it's the most transparent material of all, capable of creating hundreds of layers. I can safely say that I have a love affair with watercolor."

Q: How Did Your Personal Style Gradually Develop?

"My style developed slowly and gradually. I immediately fell in love with hyperrealism and flowers. I trained with renowned Ukrainian watercolorists in botanical painting, but didn't settle on that. One day, while scrolling through Pinterest, I saw X-ray images of flowers, and ever since, I've been in love with the transparency and delicacy of watercolor."

"But it's worth noting that my style is constantly changing. I seek new facets and constantly try new things. After all, there's so much beauty in the world beyond flowers, from tiny insects to misty forests, and all of this inspires me to create."

Q: Where Do You Usually Find Your Inspiration?

"I find inspiration in the beauty of nature, in everything that surrounds us. Sometimes I'm walking through the park and find a pine branch. I quickly run home to draw. And sometimes I can spend hours studying banzai trees and thinking about how I'll incorporate them into my future forest landscape."

Q: What Difficulties Have You Encountered During the Creative Process? How Did You Overcome Them?

"My creative process isn't based solely on drawing. It's a complex process consisting of constant learning and self-discovery. During my learning process, perseverance and patience were my main challenges."

"Knowing when to stop and not rushing is perhaps the main challenge I still face today. Every artist also experiences periods of burnout. I dealt with them simply by taking a break."

Q: What Advice Would You Give to People Who are Just Starting Out in Painting?

"For anyone just starting out in painting, I'd like to give one piece of advice: listen to your subconscious."
